2. How much financial assistance did the Foundation provide the school last year?
Because of our many generous donors, the Catholic Community Foundation was able to provide $663,532 in funds to Regina during fiscal year 2006-2007 (7/1/2006– 6/30/2007).
Here is how that $663,532 breaks out…

$ 25,000 Regina Sunday
$ 663,532 TOTAL
3. Why shouldn’t I give a gift directly to Regina instead of giving through the Foundation?
The Catholic Community Foundation is the preferred centralized means to give to the school. Giving through the Foundation allows for proper donor recognition, tax acknowledgements and tracking of gifts.
4. How much money does the Foundation take “off the top” on gifts?
The Foundation does not assess any fees to gifts. All gifts are used for the intent in which they were given. Unrestricted gifts are used to assist the Foundation in its mission to enhance Catholic education. Restricted gifts are either invested into requested endowment funds or passed through to the school for specified projects and programs.

Simply stated, a GIFT to the Catholic Community Foundation’s Annual Appeal is an investment in Catholic education. Annual funds play an essential role in supporting the mission of the Foundation to help ensure the long-term financial strength of Regina. If you have not already financially supported this year’s Annual Appeal, we ask your consideration. As a general rule, gifts to the Appeal are tax-deductible.
Campaign vs. Annual Giving
Gifts to the Fueling the Fire of Faith campaign support the specific long-term objectives of the campaign. On-going budgetary and ministry needs continue to exist despite the successful efforts of the campaign. Campaign gifts are
not the same as an Annual Appeal gift. Annual Appeal gifts help provide funds to programs and priorities that do not receive regular designated support, but are recurring annual needs.

In the fall of 2008, Regina will celebrate its 50th anniversary. As we are grateful for the sacrifice, foresight and generosity of those who built the school, we hope in 50 years the community will be equally appreciative of our stewardship of the precious gift of a Regina Catholic education. The individual and collective 2007-2008 Annual Appeal gifts we receive, including your generous gift, will help the Foundation Board and the Regina Board of Education to begin our “vision course” for Regina’s next 50 years.
Our Annual Appeal goal for 2008 has been set at $350,000. Thankfully, again this year, we have a generous anonymous donor who will match dollar-for-dollar the entire $350,000 figure if we meet the goal by fiscal year-end (June 30, 2008).
**President Model FAQs:
After all of these years, why does Regina need a president?
From its inception in 1958, Regina has grown from a 9th-12th grade high school, with a student population of 265, to a preschool-12th grade education center serving over 1,000 full-time students, approximately 300 religious education students from the public schools, and a $5 million budget. Regina has also made the shift from a primarily religious-order faculty to a lay faculty, which necessitates a competitive compensation.
For Regina to fulfill our Catholic mission and continue to offer quality academic programs into the 21st century, we must be able to clearly communicate the center’s vision. Regina’s students are best served if the principals can focus on academic success.
What will be the difference in functions for the president versus the principals?
The President will be Regina’s Chief Executive Officer. Current administration will report to the President, who, in turn, will report to the Regina Board of Education.
The primary role of the President is to positively influence adults (faculty, staff, administration, parents, alumni, parishioners and other friends) to operate in the best interest of the students. The creation, ownership, articulation, strategic planning and action steps to successfully implement Regina’s vision rests with the President.
What other Catholic schools use the president model?
In 2006, the National Catholic Education Association reported over 52% of the Catholic high schools in America utilized the president model of leadership (up from 20% in 1992). It is expected that another 7%-10% of schools will elect this model over the next five years. Assumption High School in Davenport and Dowling Catholic in Des Moines both incorporated this model of leadership in the past several years.
How will this position be funded?
In keeping with its mission to assist Regina in funding prioritized needs, the Catholic Community Foundation has committed $150,000/yr in funding for the initial three years of the president model. After year three, it is the Regina Board of Education’s expectation the position will be self-funded through increased private donor gifts, rising enrollment, and enhanced relationships with corporate and foundation partners.
Will this position jeopardize our teachers’ salaries or raise students’ tuition?
No. The funding for this position will be raised privately.
Will the funding for this position reduce other gifts from the Foundation to the school?
No. The $150,000/yr for three years will be new funds. Payouts from the three Regina endowments (Tuition Assistance, Teacher, and General), as well as named endowed scholarships, will continue to be gifted to the school on an annual basis.
How will Regina find the best possible candidate?
A search committee will work closely with a professional national search firm who has experience in locating persons qualified to be a president of a Catholic education center.
Who has endorsed this position for Regina?
The president model is fully endorsed by Bishop Martin Amos, Superintendent Mary Wieser, the Diocesan School Board, the Regina Board of Education, the Catholic Community Foundation, and the administration of Regina.
What is the anticipated position start date?
The Regina Board of Education anticipates conducting interviews in February and March of 2008 with the President beginning on July 1, 2008.
What involvement is needed from me?
To make the successful transition to this new model of leadership at Regina, we initially need your stewardship gift of treasure. Your gift will assist the Catholic Community Foundation in reaching $125,000 in Annual Appeal 2008 funds restricted to the President position for Year Two of funding. As noted above, Year Three of funding for this position is a matching gift to the 2008 Annual Appeal, so we must meet the $125,000 leadership goal to secure Year Three funding in total.
On an on-going basis, we need you to "Caucus for Regina" - throwing your verbal support and actions behind this effort, helping to ensure we are building the best academic and spiritual future for OUR children.
