The Regina Difference

A crucifix hangs in the classroom. The day begins with prayer. From the first days of preschool through high school graduation, Regina prepares children for the world through spiritual guidance, superior education and a caring, disciplined environment. Regina integrates Christian values throughout children’s education, helping them develop both academically and spiritually. At Regina, we make a difference through our commitment to:

Christian Environment

  • Nurturing of students’ faith and attention to their spiritual needs.
  • Integration of Gospel values into the daily educational experience.
  • Development of moral character through faith-based education.
  • Adherence to Christian principles of love and respect in school relationships.
  • Welcome atmosphere for a diversity of students from all backgrounds and ethnicities.

Classroom

  • High placement across the board in state and national testing.
  • Regina High School continues its strength as a top Advanced Placement school in the state of Iowa as determined by the University of Iowa Belin Blank Center AP index.  In 2008, Regina placed third, behind Cedar Rapids Washington and Cedar Rapids Kennedy, making Regina the highest ranking of the three Iowa City high schools.  Regina has ranked in the top three spots (twice at #1) for all five years that Belin Blank has conducted the rankings.
  • Teachers who are highly experienced, many with advanced degrees.
  • High school graduation rate of 100% in 2009 with 100% of graduates attending two or four-year universities/colleges.  During their RHS senior year, 28% of the class met the criteria for the Talented and Gifted program based on previous year's ITBS core totals of 97% or higher.
  • Diverse range of curriculum areas.
  • 7th & 8th grade “core” team teaching.
  • Goal of comprehensive K-12 bi-lingual program.
  • Structured environment which fosters self-discipline and high expectations for student success.
  • Technology integrated throughout the curriculum.

Campus

  • Regina is the only local school district to offer a PreK-12th grade program on one central campus.
  • Recent capital project completion of a two story addition housing a new kitchen, cafeteria, seven classrooms, four restrooms, new science lecture and lab center.
  • Four new elementary classrooms added.
  • New preschool room (room remodel).

(Extra) Curricular

  • Many extra-curricular opportunities in academic areas.
  • Successful athletic programs with emphasis on sportsmanship and teamwork.
  • Rich heritage of music and drama with wide variety of programs.
  • Associated alliances with community partners to offer individual and group lessons in the fine arts.
  • 90% of Regina Jr./Sr. High students participate in extra-curricular activities.

Community

  • Strong emphasis on responsibility to school, parish and community. Student services an expectation.
  • Thousands of hours of community service each year by Regina PreK-12 students, their families and staff.
  • Annual Senior Citizen Thanksgiving Dinner.
  • Christmas Basket Project for Iowa City families in need.  Regina seniors won the 2006 Outstanding Philanthropic Youth Award given by the Eastern Iowa Association of Fundraising Professionals for their yearly efforts.
