Fueling the Fire of Faith

In 2001, the Catholic Community Foundation undertook the $5 million, five-year Fueling the Fire of Faith campaign. In March 2001, a $1 million matching challenge leadership gift was made by Larry and Cathy Pacha and Ted and Deb Pacha. In July 2003, an anonymous donor issued a $500,000 campaign-ending challenge to the Iowa City Catholic community, Regina alumni, and other friends to meet the $5 million goal by September 30, 2003. Over 1,000 donors pledged a final gift tally of $5.8 million to make these campaign components possible:

Regina Faculty Fund  $1.25 million

Teacher salary fund to provide 80-85% parity to public school counterparts. $250,000 per year for five years beginning in 2001.

Regina Capital Needs  $1.6 million + Anonymous Match Gift

The capital project added the new Leonard & Margaret Pacha Nutrition Center (kitchen & cafeteria); the Frank & Lucille Boyd Family Science Lecture & Lab; seven junior/senior high classrooms; four elementary classrooms and two new restrooms. The new facility was officially dedicated on October 9, 2005 by the Most Reverend William E. Franklin, Bishop of Davenport. The Fr. Raymond Pacha Memorial Stone was also dedicated on that date, commemorating Fr. Pacha, who has often been called the “catalyst behind Regina being built.” The stone is located on the grounds near the front entrance of Regina High School.

Regina Endowment  $1.5 million

Critical to the long-term financial strength of Regina, the interest income returned to the school on an annual basis is approximated at $75,000 when the fund is fully realized (2009). The principal is never touched, remaining into perpetuity.

Evangelization & Stewardship Ministries  $450,000

Funds from this component have allowed the four Iowa City parishes to hire a coordinator to oversee the programs and projects of evangelization (spreading the Gospel) and stewardship (time, talent, and treasure).   Bob Squires recently replaced Sr. Laura Goedken as the Evangelization & Stewardship coordinator. $90,000 a year was to be paid for these ministries for five years. The final payment for this campaign component was gifted in November 2006.

Campaign Costs  $200,000

General and professional fees associated with conducting the campaign.
